Bylaws

Article I: Identification

Section 1.01 – This organization shall be known as “Superior Land Beekeepers Association”

Article II: Purpose

            The purpose of this organization shall be to:

Section 2.01 – Support and promote educational and social activities for the enhancement

of beekeeping.

            Section 2.02 – Explore and initiate group marketing or promotional efforts.

Section 2.03 – Provide the opportunity to buy goods, services, subscriptions etc. at group

discounts.

            Section 2.04 – Provide a unified voice on concerns and issues affecting the membership.

Section 2.05 – Other purposes which may be considered to be in the best interest of the

members and consumers of honey and honey related products.

Article III: Membership

Section 3.01 – Any individual or family interested in joining shall be considered regular

member(s) with a maximum of 2 votes.

Section 3.02 – Annual membership dues shall be set at $10.00 per family.

Section 3.03 – The membership year will be January 1 through December 31. Dues are

payable at the January meeting and no later than the second business meeting of the year.

Article IV: Executive Committee and Board of Directors

Section 4.01 – The Executive Committee shall consist of four officers: President, Vice

President, Secretary, and Treasurer.

Section 4.02 – The President will conduct business meetings following a prepared

agenda and may call special meetings. S/he will make tie-breaking vote on all

committees. S/he will conduct an annual review of the Association finances with the Treasurer and will vouch for the same as part of the annual report. The President will

be named in the checking account for the association.

Section 4.03 – The Vice President will assume the duties of the President in absence of

the President and will have charge of all the physical property of the Association. The Vice President will serve as a program and activities chair and introduce guest speakers.

Section 4.04 – The Secretary will record and publish the minutes of each meeting,

including the members in attendance. S/he will provide a regular newsletter, monthly if possible. S/he will have responsibility for any official correspondences (e.g. thank-

you notes) of the Association and retain records for 5 years.

            Section 4.05 – The Treasurer will be the custodian of all Association funds. S/he will bill

for and collect dues and keep a register of all eligible members and dues paid. S/he will issue a receipt for any funds received and will obtain a receipt for any funds

deposited. A report of receipts and deposits will be read at each meeting. No single expenditure over $150.00 will be permitted without prior approval of the President.

We will carry one bank account (no cash or miscellaneous funds outside of the bank account).  

            Section 4.06 – Officers shall be elected annually by the membership at the February

meeting and take office immediately thereafter. Duties will commence for the following meeting.

            Section 4.07 – Should a vacancy occur, appointment shall be made by members of the

Executive Committee until that term expires.

Article V: Meetings

            Section 5.01 – Meeting time and place, and the annual calendar shall be set by the

Executive Committee. The final meeting of the year shall address membership input as to the future calendar.

            Section 5.02 – Members in good standing will be notified by newsletter of the time and

place of meetings.

            Section 5.03 – At least 7 regular members must be present to comprise a quorum.

Article VI: Use of Properties

Section 6.01 - The Association may purchase supplies in the interest of promoting beekeeping among its members. These include hive bodies and supers, protective gear,

pest controls, packaging supplies, periodicals, packaged bees, tools, etc. In

accordance with Article II, the Vice President and a volunteer will keep an

inventory of such supplies, the Association-owned equipment of the bee yard

and the building at the fairgrounds. A general inventory of all properties

should be made available in the annual report.

            Section 6.02 – Current rules will apply to the use of all Association properties (e.g.

extractor, bee yard, fair bee building, etc.). See attachments.

            Section 6.03 – Members in good standing shall be entitled to use extracting equipment

subject to the attached rules.

Article VII: Annual Report

            The Executive Committee will complete an annual report by December 31 of each year.

The annual report will contain the following information:

a)     A report of membership

b)    A beginning and ending bank balance

c)     A list of income and expenses

d)    A basic inventory of Association property

e)     A “State of the Association” report

The report will be presented and available for review at the January meeting.

Article VIII: Amendment Procedure:

            The Bylaws may be amended by a 2/3 vote of members present at any annual meeting or

special meeting called for that purpose. A quorum must be present.
